Band Director - Dr. Wilkerson

Dr. Wilkerson is in his twenty-fifth year as a music educator; over the last two decades, his bands have earned Superior and Excellent ratings at the district, state, and national levels. His band programs have won numerous State Titles and multiple Bowl Game National Championships.

In the fall of 2023, Dr. Wilkerson joined the music faculty as an adjunct faculty member at Liberty University. He teaches music education courses and serves as an advisor to dissertation students.

June 2023, he was honored to have his Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble at George Bush High School in Texas selected as the featured band program of the American School Band Directors Associations Region V Conference in New Orleans. As well as was the demonstrated band and percussion ensemble for three clinics at the ASBDA Region V Conference.

July 2022, he completed and defended his dissertation on "The Residual Effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic on Student Recruitment and Retention in Upper Secondary Performing Arts Ensembles: A Case Study." He has earned a Doctor of Music Education and a Doctoral Educational Specialist degree in "Education Leadership" from Liberty University, a Master's Degree in "Administration and Supervision" from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Jacksonville University.

He has earned honors as a 2022 Claes Nobel "Educator of Distinction" from The National Society of High School Scholars and was awarded the "Educator of Influence" by the Ganado Education Foundation in 2019 and 2020.

In December 2015, he was honored to serve as a presenter at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. The clinic session was "Using Your Available Resources to Thrive and Survive."

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the 2010 Inaugural Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps Hall of Fame. In 1996, Dr. Wilkerson was inducted into the Florida Collegiate Music Educators National Conference Hall of Fame and was a part of the 1996 Closing Ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

He marched with Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle and served on the staff at Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, The Cadets of Bergen County, Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, and The Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps. He also served as Chairman and Assistant Chairman for the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps Board of Directors.

Dr. Wilkerson is elected to the prestigious American School Band Directors Association and holds memberships in the following professional organizations: the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, The Florida Bandmaster Association, The Florida Bandmasters Association Adjudicator, The Florida Music Educators Association, and The Music Educators National Conference.
